Did you know The Hidden Black Market of Social Media Accounts

When you think of online black markets, you are probably going to think of places that sell weapons, narcotics as well as a wide range of illicit services. While these products and services are definitely popular on the dark web and its various criminal marketplaces, there is another commodity that has proven to be massively profitable in this regard. This commodity is the social media account or any other kind of online profile of someone or the other who might not even know that their account is for sale.

Now, it has been a trope for many years now that no one really knows who you are on the internet. During the early days of the creation of online profiles it was quite easy to make a fake account, and even massive social media platforms like Reddit actively facilitated the creation of fake accounts because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up making their user numbers seem a lot higher than they actually were at that specific moment since boosting user statistics could help companies secure funding as well as beat out the competition in quite a few ways.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that a lot of the major social media platforms that started in the last decade or so such as Facebook and MySpace resulted in a bit of a shift here. Users were now being forced to use their real names in order to set up accounts on these platforms, and while certain users do manage to skirt the rules they often end up in situations where their accounts are banned or they end up being blocked in some other way, shape or form.

Still, the market that had been created for fake profiles and the like was not going to go anywhere, and this resulted in vast marketplaces being created for fake accounts. The truly sinister thing is that many of these accounts aren’t even fake but are rather accounts belonging to real people that have been compromised. Buyers can purchase the details of these accounts and use the profiles as they please which means that many if not most people that have some kind of an online profile need to be very careful as there is a high chance their account isn’t safe.

Did you know The Americas and Africa Have the Poorest Internet Service Despite it Being the Most Expensive

Today, having a stable internet connection is a must. However, when one pays a significant amount to get poor connectivity, the problem arises. Studies show that certain areas in the US must pay as much as $7 per megabit. And it turns out that the worst internet in the world is also quite expensive.

Surfshark fetched some interesting details from the Digital Quality of Life index and verified that the areas paying the most for the internet end up acquiring the poorest connections in terms of quality.

Oceania, Europe, and Asia happen to provide affordable internet connections that are impressive quality-wise. On the other hand, the connectivity in the Americas is the second-worst in the world despite the internet being fourth-most expensive. As for Africa, it ranks last when it comes to offering good-quality internet at an affordable price.

A person is expected to spend an average amount of $18,584.96 on the internet in their life. However, it’s highly likely that US residents would have to pay up to $32,400 over the span of a lifetime. On the other hand, this figure would go up to $50,680 for Nigerian residents, and that too for an internet connection that is poor in quality.

As per the Internet Affordability Index, 11.0 is the global average score. Oceania, Europe, and Asia’s respective scores are greater than the score in question. However, the Americas and Africa have only been able to attain scores of 0.06 and 0.03 respectively. What these numbers indicate is that nearly 15 out of every 20 countries are required to make efforts to improve their global average score.

Nigeria should put in 34 hours of work while Kenya must put in 14 hours of work for affording internet service. Moreover, several residents of countries in Central and South America have to work for up to 10 hours to access the internet. On the other hand, residents of the US, Canada, and Israel must only put in 52 minutes, 7 minutes, and 17 seconds of work respectively.

You know Snapchat conducted a research that depicts their audience’s response towards the video content that gets featured in the app

Snapchat was first launched in 2011, and it has been everyone’s favorite since then. Snapchat was the first app ever to introduce the sharing of snaps in the form of photos and videos with everyone. Multiple apps took on this feature into their own apps as well but no one has been able to beat the bar that Snapchat has set. Generation Z also known as zoomers include people that are born in the years 1997 and 2012 and Millennials includes people that are born in 1981 to 1996. It is most expected from the people of Generation Z to be involved with such chart breaking apps like Snapchat, but you will be surprised to know that many users of Snapchat are from Millennials as well!

Snapchat has been introducing many features into its apps, with the competition that this app must have with other high following social media apps. Snapchat never fails to catch up with them. The app has a lot of video content there, with different news channels and platforms uploading their everyday stories as well. This becomes easy for people to get to know about the recent happenings going on while using Snapchat. It has even allowed advertisers to come up with creative and highly appealing ads to get them featured on Snapchat.

According to a recent research conducted by Snapchat, it has been found that since launching these new gateways for uploading content. There have been more people viewing them. Snapchat basically conducted this research to know how Generation Z and Millennials have changed their use of mobile phones, the habits they have developed for their needs through Snapchat and also how the pandemic has affected them overall. Through this they found that the recommendations of watching certain videos from Snapchat have gotten a lot of views and also the advertisements that we now see so frequently have been getting a good response as well.

The reason why the video content on Snapchat is more preferred is because Snapchat always features short videos and not long ones, this has been a huge advantage for marketers who got to advertise for their products within that time frame with many people viewing them.

Snapchat asked the people from Generation Z and Millennials a bunch of questions related to their consumption of mobile phones during the year 2020 and how that had an impact on their mental health as well. Snapchat found that these people use the app and watch videos for more than one hour every day, 61% of the people said that of course due to the free time everyone got during the pandemic they’ve been spending more time watching videos, 56% said that they’ve been watching videos more on TV than on these apps and 52% said that this type of behavior that has increased in the pandemic will be here for a long time.

Mental health checkups were also given by Snapchat to each of its users which was a well thought gesture from their part as a popular platform, when asking this question about how the pandemic and Snapchat’s videos affected their health, majority of the people reported to have a positive attitude from Snapchat’s end and even said that the app played a huge role in reducing their stress levels at times like these.

Overall, Snapchat has never failed to impress their users and we hope that this stays that way!

Did you know Snippets Might Be Getting Phased Out of Google Search

Snippets have become a mainstay when it comes to Google search, and many people have started to rely on them as a way to obtain the information that they are looking for quickly without having to click several links and read through entire articles on a regular basis. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that tools that track Google search results are revealing some interesting data which indicates that snippets have been featured in far fewer Google search results over the course of the past week since the 18th of February 2021.

The decline varies from tool to tool analysis, with Moz indicating an approximately 8% decrease whereas SEOClarity appears to be showing a decline of about 25%, but the fact remains that this decline appears to be quite real. What’s more is that it’s unprecedented; if you look at Google search history over the past decade and even further than that, you would be hard pressed to find any kind of trend that is anywhere close to this kind of thing so people that are looking to predict future Google activities will want to take note of this.

Website owners will also want to take this into account because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up bringing a lot less traffic to their sites. Site owners who relied on featured snippets to get a large portion of their traffic might not be getting the same level of traffic anymore which can potentially end up making it so that they would have to rely on other means. Traffic is the lifeblood of any site that you might ever want to start up, so future blog and website owners will have to factor these changes into their plans as well.

Another thing that should be noted is that this decline might get even steeper as time goes by. One possible reason for this reduction might have to do with Google being faced with new regulations in Australia and the European Union that are trying to break Google’s forthcoming monopoly over news. Whatever the reason for this decline is, it will certainly have a major impact on website traffic and how they implement various kinds of search engine optimization in the near future which can turn into an even wider and more radical shift as time goes by.

Did you know Mobile Market Forecast Report Predicts The App Spending To Go Up To $270 Billion Till 2025

Can you imagine living without apps? While the answer to this would most probably be a “no” from the majority, a new study by Sensor Tower has predicted that the ad spending will go up to $270 billion by the year 2025 and this figure does include paid downloads, in-app purchases, and subscriptions.

Furthermore, the market researchers have also estimated that the in-app spending will return to the level of pre-pandemic, which means that there will be a stable growth in the next few years, downloads will go up but the biggest surprise will emerge in the form of app store spending in non-game apps beating mobile game spending by at least 2024.

Looking at how consumers crazily spend almost twice on mobile games as compared to on non-games, this, for now, seems to be a very impossible claim. But the firm is hopeful because of the sudden shift that mobile apps are expected to make towards the subscription model. So, in figures, by the end of the year 2024, the non-app game spending might raise up to $86 billion whereas game spending will only reach $73 billion according to the estimates. The lead is expected to only grow in 2025 as non-games will have an app spending of $107 billion whereas mobile games will see a little growth and stand at $78 billion.

The reason behind this prediction can be the global consumer spending of 2020 - which was up by 34% for the top 100 subscription apps on a year-over-year basis.

There is also one factor that Sensor Tower hasn’t accounted for in their prediction and that is of how the regulatory environment will come into play across the app stores in the upcoming years. In the current, scenarios, companies like Apple and Google force apps to charge from customers for subscriptions through their own payment processes. But if the new anti-competition laws work out, publishers would then enjoy the liberty of marketing their own subscriptions within the apps and let users rely on their own channels to make purchases.

Hence, if this change is taken care of, then we can already see its massive impact on the app store subscription growth trends, along with the forecasts.

Despite the pandemic pushing in-app spending up by 30% on year-over-year to a record $111 billion in 2020, the gross revenue across both of the app stores will only increase by 19.5% compound annual growth rate (CAGR) to make up to $270 billion by 2025. Breaking down that figure further, $185 billion will belong to the App Store spending and $85 billion would be for Google Play.

Quite ironically, the U.S will see slow growth as compared to other parts of the world (a CAGR of 17.7% to reach $74 billion by 2025).

It is the European markets that will be the cause of major growth in the in-app store spending till 2025 and the list of countries is going to be led by the U.K. These markets haven’t been predicted based on the most spending in total, but in fact, keeping in mind where the real growth will take place. Therefore by 2025, 11 European countries will cross the $1 billion in consumer spending to also together make up as $42 billion in consumer spending.

Downloads, on the other hand, will continue to grow with similar trends to reach 230 billion by 2025, and Google Play will have the major contribution to that figure (187 billion global downloads to be precise).

The report concluded with the figures of U.S App Store downloads in 2025 which are going to be 10.6 billion and Google Play will make 6.3 billion among it.

You know On its 12th anniversary, WhatsApp claims it handles more than 1 billion calls each day

WhatsApp has been on number one in instant messaging apps for many years. The Facebook-owned company celebrated its 12th anniversary while revealing that it manages more than 1 billion calls every day.

It’s been 12 years since WhatsApp has been launched and it continues to grow even more every passing day. Back in 2009 in the month of February, WhatsApp first originated and soon after its launch, the user engagement increases too many folds. At first, users were allowed to share their status with friends and family, there was no audio or video call feature. However, it grew and developed into a complete messaging platform, gradually substituting conventional voice and video calls. After some years, users were enabled to send stickers and gifs and make payments through the platform.

At the beginning of 2021, due to the revised privacy policy, WhatsApp has been called out. The policy was supposed to be implemented in February but now it is expected to be enforced on 15th May 2021.

In its 12 year journey, WhatsApp has become a target of a lot of criticism and appreciation for its revised features. Still, the user count is increasing tremendously. WhatsApp shared the news of the completion of 12 years on Thursday via tweet. Along with its 12th anniversary news, the tweet addresses some of the previously collected figures of two billion active users on monthly basis. Over 100 billion messages have been sent via WhatsApp in these past 12 years. The Facebook-owned company also notified that the team has been managing over one billion calls every single day.

WhatsApp also launched business WhatsApp a few years back to keep your business separate from regular chats. You can deal with your clients on business WhatsApp and use the normal one for messaging friends and family. In February 2015, WhatsApp calling feature was came on board, and in 2016 that feature was further upgraded to a video calling feature. Lastly, in August 2018, users were allowed to make group calls for improved communication.

Because of the interesting features that enable users to communicate via stickers and Gifs, it has gained a lot of users in the past years. In 2014, WhatsApp has become a part of Facebook which enabled the messaging app to grow more rapidly. After which, users were started calling out WhatsApp on sharing their private information with the associated apps due to which the recently revised privacy policy was delayed from February to May 15th.

Did you know Facebook has decided to remove its ban on Australia as the new law proposed by the Government involved the tech giant to pay local publishers for their news content

We have always seen Facebook have the upper hand no matter on what situation it gets indulged in. Facebook always finds a way around. The American-based multinational company some while ago, put a ban on Australia from sharing news on the social media platform and decided to remove news Pages due to the disagreement after the House of Representatives passed the draft law, that involved Facebook and Google paying news publishers for content and for hosting links to new sites. The Government decided on this law for regulation, but recently it has come in the news that Facebook has decided to remove this ban and reinstate news Pages back for Australian users.

After the ban was implemented, the Australian Treasurer Josh Frydenberg had a meeting with Mark Zuckerberg and they had decided to end the ban in the coming days. He told reports in Canberra that there was no need to worry about this as Facebook has re-friended Australia.

The proposed legislation made Facebook block Australian users that caused much uproar as many Australian users were majorly disappointed. The Government’s response to this was this step had to be taken to make sure that huge tech companies knew the importance and value of news content and also decide on giving chances to small and local news publishers. The reason why Facebook changes its firm decision was because of the reassurance that was given to Facebook by the Australian Government who said that Facebook still has full power to decide which news goes on Facebook and then Facebook won’t be forced to do negotiations that actually indirectly harm the company. After this law was proposed even Google threatened to remove its search engine from Australia but just like Facebook even Google has reached to a conclusion with the Government and with the local media companies.

Mr. Campbell Brown, the vice president of global news partnerships for Facebook even confirmed this himself and said that both the Australian Government and Facebook has decided to include small and local publishers to include their news content on the social media platform as well.

The Australian Government received much criticism and their own share of online bullying but many politicians from all over the world showed their support on Australia’s proposal as it does have a purpose to it.

Facebook has a separate showcase product tab that is only available in the UK and US that is the Facebook News Tab through where it basically pays media companies’ money to display their stories on Facebook’s platform.

Did you know Google Docs Will Soon Be Getting a Comments Filter

If you have ever ended up participating in any kind of Google Doc that was being edited in a collaborative manner, you would be well aware that the comments that end up getting left can often be rather chaotic and difficult to make sense of. Because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up preventing people from being able to effectively collaborate on Google Docs and the like, Google is working on an update that will help organize the comments and enable you to filter the ones that are specifically meant for you thereby allowing you to figure out what needs to be done.

The way that you can now filter comments is that you can choose to see all comments, ones that are meant for you or ones that have been resolved. This can really help to make it easier for people to collaborate on a wide range of Google Docs based projects, and it can help speed up the process in quite a few ways as well. With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that this is not the only change that is coming to Google Docs.

Another change will allow you to see a list of all the activity that occurred from the last time you opened the document. This can help you get up to speed a lot more quickly, and users are going to be glad that they are getting a feature like this so soon. This is essentially a fourth sorting option for comments since it shows you all comments but will filter out ones that you might have already seen based on when you previously interacted with the document. Chances are that more updates like this will be coming in the future.

You know TikTok removed over 89 million videos and 15.6 million accounts from its social network in H2 2020

In the past few months, TikTok has been accused of displaying content that is not appropriate for young users. After which immediate action was taken by the owners of the platform. In this week’s update, TikTok has released the latest transparency report data as it had to go through difficulties because of the allegations. The report revealed all the videos and content that have been taken off of the platform for various reasons.

The statistics provided in the data indicate that the social media platform took strong actions and worked hard to improvise the inappropriate content before making it available for the audience. TikTok made it clear by providing further details regarding the same concern to clarify the allegations.

TikTok revealed that at the beginning of 2021, a total of 89,132,938 videos were deleted globally which is not even 1 percent of the total videos posted on TikTok. These videos were taken down for breaching the terms and guidelines of TikTok.

Approximately 9 billion videos were uploaded on TikTok during this time and according to TikTok 92.4 percent of these videos were taken down before being reported. 83.3 percent of videos were removed before they reach the audience. These figures suggest that TikTok’s progress has slightly decreased but still their efforts to remove such type of content are appreciable.

In the previous months, TikTok faced a downfall as the site got banned in India, and eventually TikTok loose its Indian users which were in huge numbers.

During this time, when TikTok has been accused off, The European Commission was constantly observing TikTok due to the claims that it keeps on displaying illegal content to younger generations. For the same reason, Pakistan and Italy temporarily halted the app.

TikTok revealed that the main cause of videos being removed was minor safety. Secondly, the spreading of sexual content is responsible for removal. For each factor, TikTok has provided complete removal statistics, demonstrating how they have been dealing with each concern.

Still, TikTok needs to prioritize the areas that need extra improvements to overcome the challenges it has been facing lately.

In all, TikTok is figuring out ways to strategize monitoring processes. However, some elements require extra focus to prevent further inspection. TikTok is working greatly to resolve the challenges and the strategies are evolving to come up to the expectations.

Did you know YouTube has taken on the initiative to introduce supervised accounts for parents to look over and control the type of content their kids can watch on the platform

No doubt, the media world has progressed a lot in recent years. With everyone having some sort of gadget in their hands from kids to old people, and the much available content on the internet related to everything, one needs to make sure that everything that is viewed is according to their age requirements. A close eye has to be kept on the things that kids watch because it doesn’t even come to notice and any graphic related media that might be traumatizing for a child can get in front of their eyes.

For this, YouTube has finally taken an initiative and has announced that the company is planning on to launch a beta test of new features that includes parents having the control over what content their kids get to see through a supervised Google Account. This feature will allow parents to set up and manage their YouTube account so that their kids, teens and tweens don’t get to see stuff they haven’t grown up for. Children who are included in this category cannot upload videos or even pass comment, their will a whole bunch of content filters set up by their parents who will be choosing the type of content they should be introduced to according to their age. These supervised Google accounts are to launch soon in more than 80 countries that of course includes the Unites States as well, parents will be able to view search history and viewing history of their children through these accounts. Parents can also set screen timers for these accounts along with putting those content restrictions.

YouTube already has a platform for kids named as ‘YouTube Kids’ that was launched in 2015. The channel is made separately for kids between the ages of 4-12 and contains media content that is strictly for kids like cartoons, educational videos etc. This though isn’t for teens and tweens who need to be made sure that they do not get exposed to things above their age group. As also said by YouTube’s director of product management for kids and family, that as children grow up they get this uncontrollable curiosity of things and they find new ways of learning, parents need to ensure that the kids learn all of that through a healthy way and through this way they can grow, create and learn from a much better perspective.

The content settings will be in three modes namely ‘Explore’, ‘Explore More’ and ‘Most of YouTube’, each having different levels of content restrictions. ‘Explore’ will be for the kids that now can move from the YouTube Kids category and explore more content that is out there, these will include gaming videos, news, educational content etc. ‘Explore More’ will be for kids above 13 years of age and finally the ‘Most of YouTube’ content category will include most of YouTube’s content minus certain topics that are reserved for the older audience.

YouTube however still recommends using YouTube Kids for kids to make sure that they can have that independency and gain more viewing experience.

Did you know With the help of the new feature of Oculus Quest, you can mark your real couch in VR

A new Oculus Quest inflates the headsets Guardian mode by allowing you to mark your actual couch as an object that you can see in VR, the guardian is a safety feature that will allow you to draw lines in the environment that act as a simulated borderline. And here in VR, you get when you get two closes in the edges. However, this couch mode is first time added which a guardian mode that has worked more than just a portion of space. Gamers sometimes want to make more of their space but that is not possible, sometimes it is easier to play long VR games while sitting on a seat with the help of firmware v26 for the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2, what you now have to do is just sit down on the couch.

A picture was shared by UploadVR, to elaborate new feature in which there was a couch and there was a rectangle hovers on the top of the couch that is showing the existence in actual space, however, in the bottom is the virtual representation of said couch, which makes it simple for the people to ramble over while in Oculus home and just relax, you don’t even need to take off your headsets. When you are sitting on a couch in VR, this will be changed to the seated VR experience. The game that you want to play will automatically be switched to a seated experience. This is also good for those people who want to enjoy while sitting and relax, now you don’t need to be messy with your legs.

For adding the couch to your Oculus Home, you need to update firmware version 26, after updating it, you need to open your Oculus Universal menus by clicking the home button on the right side. Then press the setting wheel, choose the experimental feature on the left menus, then click the add or remove button in front of the option ‘bring your couch into VR’. The Quest will be shifted to the passthrough camera which will show you the room around you, you can click the and drag the blue rectangle over the area of your seat, now amazingly, you can see your couch in VR. But remember in this feature, you will now be able to add only one couch, so you need to check that which one is better and comfortable enough to get it into VR.

Firmware v26 update is now a small update with only couch feature is added without any significant changes and some quality improvements which is made to the pinch gesture for tracking of hands. However, during the couch setup process, the pinch gesture is more reliable than the previous firmware version

Did you know Twitter’s New Hacking Labels, what it Means and How Were They Hacked?

Twitter users just noticed a new change in Twitter. As of February 20th 2021, Twitter started putting some warning labels under some tweets. The warning label states that the following tweet may be obtained through hacking based on the content or link it carries.

The warning label first appeared on a tweet by an independent news website “The Grayzone”. The tweet in question included a link about a story of hacking and leaking which portrayed the participation of BBC and Reuters in a program created by the UK government called the “weaken Russia's state influence.” The tweet showed a message reading “These materials may have been obtained through hacking” and whenever any other Twitter user tried re-sharing the tweet it showed a pop up to them warning about the hacked contents, however once they did follow through with re tweeting the same warning label appeared on their tweet as well.

This was the first tweet that was labelled with the new warning label however after that a number of tweets which the company thought was based on hacked and leaked documents were labelled with the similar label as well. A tweet which contained a link to an Italian outlet was labeled with the same thing as well because the tweet contained a link about the new Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine.

But what were the circumstances that led to Twitter putting on such labels?

Well, last year in October, when the microblogging network blocked links that accessed to the tweet of New York Post story which contained materials which were obtained from the laptop of the politician and current US president’s Joe Biden’s son’s, Hunter Biden. The company also blocked people from sharing the tweet links within their DMs and on their stories. This created a havoc and the company faced a back lash from the public for banning them from the tweet and the company had to revert their action. Based on this scenario, the company has introduced this label which would warn the public prior to opening the link that the tech giant thinks that the information contained within the tweet is hacked or contains unverified information.

But as much as Twitters intention were pure with this newly introduced feature, the world is full of smart and computer science geeks who love to put their brains just for some fun and it was in no time that some people found a hack of this new feature as well.

Remember how we mentioned above that if you re-tweet a tweet containing the label, the label will appear on the re tweeted tweet as well. Now turns out some people found out that Twitter also displays the warning if you trick it into doing so by using a specially crafted link to a genuine URL combined with the flagged one and this tricks the card based system into flagging a normal tweet with the label as well. This hack works on web and Twitter’s mobile apps for iOS and Android and in most cases it is likely to crash the Android version of the app if you make an attempt to react a like on the falsely made flagged tweet.

However, Twitter found about this hacking system early on and is working towards making this label a more secured one. As to when that will happen has not been mentioned, but once it is we will be here to update you.

Did you know Telegram has introduced a whole bunch of features for its users in the app’s new beta update v7.5.0

Telegram is a social media app that was launched in August of 2013 but the app gained most popularity in the beginning of 2021 when Whatsapp announced its new privacy features that included the app and Facebook getting every data and media of its users that caused quite uproar everywhere in the world. The app has been coming up with updates and features for their new users and plans to provide an over the top experience for their users.

While launching new features and updates for the app with the new beta update v7.5.0, it was announced by the app that it is now rolling out an auto-delete feature for messages that will allow users to set a timer for deleting messages for all the people they sent those messages to, home screen widgets that will allow users to have an easier approach to their chats faster.

The new update will come with two widget options, a chat Widget and a short cut Widget and expiring invite links that will help users make a link inactive after a certain amount of time. The link invites can also be converted to QR codes to scan for easy sharing purposes. All of the features are the ones that everyone looks for in an app to help them provide ease with their daily tasks. The chat Widget will pop up for recent chats and, on the short cut Widgets the users will see only the names and profile pictures of their contacts.

Whether someone agrees to it or not, we all know that the most used feature out of all these updates will be the auto-delete feature! This feature was only available for secret messages previously on the app. To enable the timer for deleting messages on Android devices, just open the contact from which you want those messages to get deleted from, tap on the three dots on the top left corner, click on the ‘Clear History’ option and then set your timer. For iOS devices however just simply press and hold on to your message, click on ‘Select’ and press the ‘Clear Chat’ option appearing on the top left corner. The users can set the duration to be from 24 hours to 7 days in any of the chats.

These features are now out in the open for both iOS and Android users using the Telegram app! These features will for sure provide a greater user experience and also better security as Telegram has also mentioned a lot of times that the app prides itself over the fact that they have always kept their users privacy their number one priority.

Did you know You’ll Be Shocked How Much Data Apps Collect Without Your Permission

The fact that a lot of apps harvest user data and information has been the source of much controversy because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up compromising the level of safety that users would ideally want to be able to take advantage of while surfing the web. This lead to widespread regulations that made it so that companies had to ask for your permission before collecting a lot of data, but with all of that having been said and now out of the way it is important to note that a study conducted by researchers from the University of Bologna and University College London has revealed some disturbing information

It is always assumed that apps will be collecting at least some data without your permission, but the sheer amount of data that these apps manage to get their hands on without telling you about it is quite staggering to put it mildly. The primary kind of data that apps end up acquiring involves your location and the like, and this allows these apps to infer a lot of other things as well such as your preferences, spending habits, general lifestyle and routine along with many other types of information that the vast majority of users would most definitely consider to be sensitive and would want kept safe at all costs.

The researchers discovered this by creating an app of their own called Track Advisor which was downloaded by 69 users. The data that this app was able to acquire without asking for permission was quite significant, and this indicates that other apps that are profiting off of this data don’t really need to try that hard to get it in the first place. This means that they can sell it to the highest bidder and the data would then be used for things like marketing which can explain some of the highly targeted ads that people often end up seeing and getting confused about how the advertiser could ever have known something so specific about them. Users deserve the chance to avoid having their data used for such purposes.

Did you know Apple Is About To Make iPhone’s Security Impenetrable For Hackers

Apple’s new security technique in iOS 14.5 version has been made to be almost impossible for nation-states hackers to hack the iPhones. Being the world’s biggest smartphone making company and now the largest phone-selling company from October 2020 till December 2020 by selling over 80 million iPhones in just three months. After the launch of iPhone 12, 12 pro, and 12 pro max, apple has left Samsung much behind in terms of sales.

Lately, the cyber hackers sponsored by the states were using 0click exploits as they are called, in which without the users' interaction the phones can be hacked in order to spy and gather intelligence.

Back in 2016, United Arab Emirates’ government intelligence hackers used the ‘karma’ a 0-click tool code used for hacking iPhones and hacked into hundreds of phones.

Also last year thirty six journalists and editors working at AlJazeera news network, which is known to be one of the world’s largest news organizations, were targeted and spied through the zero-click iPhone hack, which was later revealed by the Citizen Lab, a digital rights group.

Now, in order to get control over the whole hacking and attacking situation, apple has come forward with pointer authentication code (PAC) which is used to prevent hackers from sending any malicious codes into the phones, using the cryptographically authenticate pointers.

As said by some iPhone hackers that’ some of the hacking methods and techniques are now useless because of the new security feature’.

But, the technology has no limit and no security system is foolproof, the professional cyber heads and geeks can always learn new methods to hack into the new security system.

According to Jamie Bishop, a member of the jailbreak Checkra1n developing team said, there’s always going to be some kind of flaw or glitch in the system, whether that be in Pointer Authentication Code or a totally different hacking method, and when there is a will, there is always a way out.

Apple was also seen updating its software in January 2021 for security issues and bugs in the previous version.

Did you know Cybercriminals are continuously changing their ways for attacks through a new phishing scam which is capable of bypassing old-style URL defense

Cybercriminals are continuously trying new ways to trick you so that they cannot get detected by security researchers. Many people are unfortunately becoming the victims of such criminals, now through a new phishing scam, which is basically a fraudulent game of deception by which the attacker gets your sensitive information such as username, passwords, credit card information, etc by sending you unknown links from different sources. Many people unintentionally click such links and give their personal information by thinking that these are trusted links and consequently lose their data. These criminals sometimes after taking your personal information give you threats and sometimes, they blackmail different people they fell prey.

These types of attacks are pretended to be a trusted entity and trick the users to open an email or instant message, the user is induced into downloading an attachment, clicking a link by providing sensitive information. Recently, these scammers have found a new phishing campaign that can bypass the old URL security. Now these attackers are trying to change the letters of famous websites’ URLs which many people use on a daily basis, by changing their URL slightly, people wrongly go to the fake pages, that is how these attackers grab their prey. These attackers change the symbol that is used at the start before the URL. Many people do not concentrate on the URL of popular websites and these popular websites have large traffic on their platform, so there is more chance for the scammer to trick more people.

These criminals slightly change the URL in a new phishing campaign such as in place of HTTP://, they use HTTP:/\ at the start of the URL, there is more chance that many people will not concentrate and will think that it is an original URL.

People should use different security methods such as antivirus software or ransomware protection to minimize the risk of a phishing scam. According to the report of the Great Horn a Threat Intelligent Agency, this malformed attack of URL was first reported at the end of last year, and then these attacks were increased. Now in the first two months of this year, these attacks have increased up to 6,000 percent which is an alarming situation for us. Because none of us want to lose our sensitive data.

The main aim of phishing scams is to target pharmaceutical, lending, and construction companies more than any other user. An organization using Office 365 are getting more attacks than those using Google Workspace, as one attack was identified by Great Horn, in which a user was tricked through a phishing email, by which he landed on a fake page who was using Office 365 login page. Some people may unintentionally give their email and important information to these attackers which are found in their cloud storage.

Organizations should train their employees on how to deal with such suspected emails if they receive and should immediately remove such emails containing URLs that match the threat pattern and remove them.

You know Twitter’s "Review Before You Tweet" Feature Is Back To Prevent The Use Of Harmful Language

Twitter launched the beta model of the 'review before you tweet' feature on iOS last year in May 2020 which was made to help the users to take another look at and review the message before sending t to anyone. Later in August, the feature was opened for the Android users as well but the feature was paused after being in the testing mode but now it is being relaunched.

Recently in a reply to a Tweet made in august 2020 asking about the feature in experiment mode, Twitter gave out the news that their testing is back on iOS devices.

The feature consists of a Tweet, Edit as well as a Delete option. Moreover there is a "did we get this wrong" button. In case the prompt was a mistake as well as for getting users feedback.

The new algorithm will analyze the comments and any abusive or antagonistic sounding messages will be prompted to review.

Furthermore, any message that disobeys the terms and conditions set by Twitter can result in the user account being banned by Twitter as well as legal inconvenience.

According to Twitter, we often say things that we don’t mean to, in the heat of the moment sometimes. But Twitter's current experiment on iOS lets you rethink via a prompt that gives you the option to re-examine language and words that are harmful to others.

These days Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is adamant about making the site weed out any misinforming, misleading, and abusive content. They are also working on a Twitter fact check program which is in testing mode and it will allow the Twitterati to flag the tweets to report if there is any misleading and false content.

Twitter is also testing their audio messages or voice DM feature which will be launched in a beta phase in three countries at the moment which are India, Brazil, and Japan. The feature is somewhat similar to the WhatsApp voice notes.

Stay tuned for more tech updates.

Did you know Google has finally updated the Gmail app with App Privacy labels

Good news for iOS users as Google, the multinational technology company quietly adds App privacy labels to the Gmail app on the Apple App Store. Gmail App Privacy disclosed that the app will be using the user’s location for Google listing user ID, user content and contacts as information to be shared with a third party. After YouTube, Gmail becomes the company’s second most used app to get a privacy label. Google has been a little late with adding these privacy labels because Apple has been executing their App Privacy labels since December of last year. As said by Apple, that it is the responsibility of the app developers to add privacy labels in their apps, this allows the users to know how much data that particular app is collecting from them.

The Gmail app was showing some warning notifications that the app was not getting any security updates and it had been two months since then that Google finally took this step, Google in response to this said that privacy labels will only be added to an app when the updates are available bug free, that means that Google’s iOS apps get updated when the new features can get launched without any bugs.

12 of Google Apps from Google are displaying these privacy labels. These apps include Google Play Movies and TV, Google Fiber, Fiber TV, Google Translate, Google Authenticator, Google Classroom, Google Smart Lock, Onduo for Diabetes, Project Baseline, Stadia, Wear OS and Motion Stills.

The new App Privacy labels for the app can be seen under the page listings in the app that includes these details. They also show the type of data that is collected and the maximum strength as to how far the app will go to collect your data; this is of course to only happen when the user fully uses the app and its services. Now what good can possibly come out of an app collecting your data? Well this can help you to get a smooth and hindrance free user experience by Google and of course if you are not comfortable the app has always and will continue to allow you to change these privacy settings by going into you Google Account or directly through Google Products. This all was mentioned in the blog posted by the company itself.

It was announced in early January by Google that the App Privacy labels will get added into the apps in the coming month only but by January 20, no such apps were seen to get updated with these Privacy labels. This much awaited update was finally made by Google as many were wondering why it is taking for a tech giant company like Google so long to get done with this.

Did you know Starlink Internet Speeds to Double in 2021, Says Elon Musk

Elon Musk has been climbing rather rapidly in terms of his influence within the tech industry as well as the world in general. His biggest company right now apart from Tesla, and the company that is receiving the most good press these days, is SpaceX, and while the main focus of this company has more to do with space exploration rather than anything else, another thing that the company is known for is the fact that it is operating the world’s first satellite based internet service, Starlink.

While only a few people have currently used this internet service, when it finally gets deployed for global use the end result will be that anyone anywhere will be able to gain access to lightning fast internet. Elon Musk has already stated that thanks to the satellites being launched by SpaceX Starlink might just end up becoming accessible worldwide later in 2021, but another thing that Musk recently announced that the maximum possible speed that people will be able to end up gaining access to once they start using Starlink is going to double from the already very impressive 150 MB/S to an almost impossible to imagine 300 MB/S.

Musk has long term plans to turn Starlink into a communication platform that can be used to communicate with Mars in the hopes that a human colony can be established on Mars at some point in the future. Hence, it makes sense that Musk is currently trying to spread awareness about just how fast Starlink is going to become. Whether or not we get to see Starlink become globally accessible remains to be seen, but if this does end up happening it will result in a massive paradigm shift where everyone would get the chance to start using the internet at the fastest possible speeds.

Samsung’s selling from quarter-to-quarter was decreased up to 12%, however, the selling percentage of iPhone was increased up to 15% from first to the fourth quarter.

Apple company has recorded sales of 100 billion dollars with 65.6 billion dollars were iPhones only. However, no other company could maintain the success like Apple company has maintained in just three months, other smartphones sales were declined up to 5.4% in the fourth quarter of 2020.

Did you know New Google App Voice Tests Suggest Assistant Won’t Be Replacing Voice Search Anytime Soon

For better or for worse, Google has been trying rather hard to make sure that it has bundled up as many of its features as possible. This is being done because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up taking some of the older offerings that Google has incorporated into its services and mixing them up with new and advanced programs and features so that some kind of optimal user experience can be obtained.

One old school Google feature that has not been going away for some reason is Voice Search. It was widely speculated that Voice Search, which is the feature that gets activated for Google searches when you utter phrases such as “OK Google” and the like, would be discontinued in favor of Google Assistant. After all, Google Assistant is a voice activated feature that is far richer in terms of its features, so it just seemed to make sense that Google would want to do away with Voice Search since it has been streamlining virtually every single part of its product line in a lot of different ways.

However, Voice Search has continued to function. In fact, Google has added a few new features to it such as the “Hum to Search” option. Another sign that Voice Search might not be going away is a number of other tests that are being conducted to figure out where the app can go. It does seem strange and rather uncharacteristic for Google to offer two different voice activated programs or features, but this does seem to the route that the company seems to be taking. This will definitely be a pleasant surprise for people that are used to Voice Search and might not be willing to switch over to Google Assistant just yet.

Did you know DoubleVerify releases a report that marks the effects many horrific incidents from last year caused all around

Last year in 2020 the world witnessed many challenges that were completely unimaginable. Out of the many things which we never thought we will have to experience was living in a global pandemic. COVID-19 did a lot to completely change our lives, some for the best and some for the worst. Many brands had to spend more than usual for their advertisements as people relied more on online shopping and couldn’t go out because of the lockdown. Other historic things that everyone had to witness altogether were the 2020 US elections, the war between Donald Trump and Joe Biden and the Black Lives Matter movement to finally implant a racial justice all over the country.

All of these events shaked things up on a larger bit and had something going on for all of us. According to the annual report released by DoubleVerify, in November of 2020 during the presidential US elections, deceptive and destructive information was distributed around a lot. The percentage of which rose to 83% from 2019 meaning that the different sites and platforms who took part on spreading these false news earned twice as much than they did in November of 2019.

DoubleVerify releases information like these to help brands cope up with their losses and also protect themselves for being listed among the brands that spread harmful content. Such precautions have to be taken for 2021 as well and this will also include promoting and creating healthy content not only for the company but also for a healthy and toxic free overall environment as well.

DoubleVerify has also reported that the two months that followed the death of George Floyd by two police officers in the mid of 2020, content involving hate speech and diversity tripled when as compared to the previous year. This content was shared by many all around the world as they stood like a force against the unjust system. The height that escalated with this hate speech was on June 17, the day after the Atlanta Police Department fired Garret Rolfe for firing a bullet at Rayshard Brooks outside Wendy’s.

After witnessing so many of these bad incidents, November of 2020 also marked good ones too that will be remembered for ever, on 9th November BioNTech and Pfizer announced that their new COVID vaccines were more than 90 percent effective after testing them out during a clinical trial, but this resulted in increase of vaccine-related disinformation to about 400% that induced panic among people.

You know Researchers from the University of Cambridge were able to uncover the very basis of extremist attitudes

Extremist attitude tends to get developed in people from a really young age. It depends on the type of grooming and learning the child is receiving. Extremist attitude is when a person thinks outside the boundaries that is set by any particular ideology and takes that meaning to an extreme level. This type of behavior tends to make the environment of any community unhealthy and toxic.

Even if someone develops such views, one should always figure out at some point in life that its views may be wrong and should also know that there is always room for improvement. Researchers from the University of Cambridge recently uncovered the very basis and structure of these people that view everything on such extreme means. The studies involved a total of 330 participants from the US aged between 22 and 63 and were tested through various ways, which included 37 neuropsychological tasks and 22 personality surveys all of these conducted within a span of two weeks.

The research shows that people with such extremist attitudes tend to lack in judgment and thinking during tasks which require a strong and healthy mental attitude. The study shows that the mixture of a person’s personality traits and their mental processes that involve knowledge and comprehension on things is how the brain takes in basic information and then frames it towards the different ranges which include having opinions on race, religion, nationalism etc.

The tasks in the study were all neutral and did not involve anything controversial. The study showed that the way these people think is through a black and white grid and therefore then struggle when complex tasks are put in front of them as they are unable to think outside the boundaries. These people are not good with communication and with conveying their emotions, hence their opinions come out impulsively and they seek out for emotional support and that is how this forms the base through which these people go on willingly to any height just to prove a point that has no head or tail. This was said by Dr. Leor Zmigrid.

Dr. Zmigrid also said that the people with such views take their sweet time to come up with a conclusion for any neuropsychological task; they tend to take longer to process all of this in and to come up with a decision. For tasks that require gaining knowledge on anything, Dr. Zmigrid supported this by saying that the participants for that study were asked to complete the task as quickly as possible; some lent towards a more conservative outlook with taking their time while others had a more of a liberal approach to come up with results faster with less thinking.

Such people were therefore said to manipulate principles to link them with something undeniably true and then come up with opinions that are conservative and have an emotional approach. With their slower thinking capacity on complex mental tasks they tend to get more aggressive, are impulsive when speaking about it, tend to process complex tasks slowly and without a proper approach, therefore this makes their opinions to reach to an extreme unacceptable manner.

Did you know Nearly 7 in 10 People Want Robots to Manage their Finances Instead of Humans (infographic)

It goes without saying that the COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to be extra careful with how we spend our money. But the problem is that people are not ready to trust someone with their hard-earned money. However, they are ready to trust “something” and that something is artificial intelligence.

According to research conducted by Farnoosh Torabi and Oracle, the pandemic played a key role in leveling up the anxiety and uncertainty people have had in regards to controlling their finances. The research revealed that stress and sadness had increased by more than 50%. For business leaders, the factor of stress witnessed a massive boost of 186% and that of sadness increased by 116%.

Since the pandemic has forced us to make changes in almost every area of our lives, it’s only fair that people have become worried about managing their finances. Over the last year, people’s feelings towards cash and spending it on goods and services have been impacted. They have become “anxious” (26%), “dirty” (19%), and “fearful” (23%).

When presented with a suggestion of robots taking up the task of managing their daily expenditures, the majority of surveyors expressed happiness. The reason why many people are ready to trust robots with their finances is that with robots, there would be no chance for financial decisions to be altered by emotions.

Nearly 67% of consumers and business leaders claimed that they would rather trust a robot than a human to manage finances. As for their own money, about 53% of consumers stated that a robot was better suited for managing it.

As for business owners, they are more likely to trust a robot’s verdict over their own about 73% of the time. Moreover, these owners would take a robot’s suggestion over that pitched by their finance teams about 77% of the time. Their main reason behind putting this much trust in robots is that these machines can do a better job at detecting fraud (34%), generating invoices (25%), and performing cost/benefit analysis (23%).

Farnoosh Torabi issued a statement to corroborate their study. They stated how robots are well-equipped to help due to being great with numbers and lacking an emotional connection with money. Torabi also clarified that the findings of their study do not indicate that the need for finance professionals would go down all of a sudden. However, people working in these roles should think about evolving and adding to their skill set.

Did you know Chrome Uses Up a Shocking Amount of Memory, Here’s Why

A really common complaint that quite a few people have ended up having with regards to Google Chrome is associated with the tendency of this browser to make your computer/laptop a lot slower than might have been the case otherwise. Because of the fact that this is the sort of thing that could potentially end up limiting you in terms of the kind of usage you can end up getting out of your machine, you might be concerned that using Google Chrome is not going to be worthwhile if it compromises your PC’s ability to run in a swift and efficient manner.

The main reason why Google Chrome makes your system so slow is due to the reason that it uses up quite a bit of your PC's memory while it is operational. This reason is all well and good, but before you can safely end up saying that it is worth using based on this information you need to understand why Google Chrome requires the use of so much RAM in the first place. This will help you to contextualize this level of memory usage and enable you to make a much better decision in this regard.

With all of that having been said and now out of the way, it is important to note that if Google Chrome is indeed using the lion’s share of your memory, this actually means that it is working the way that it is supposed to. The way that Google Chrome works is that each tab you open will be working semi-independently of other tabs that you might have open at that point through a process known as “sandboxing”.

Hence, if you have multiple tabs open, you should bear in mind that there will be a separate process running for each of those tabs. When you consider the fact that certain research intensive activities can leave you with a huge number of tabs open you will realize why your system might end up getting slow.

Another thing that can end up making your system slower is the fact that Chrome often preloads certain webpages. It does this so that you can minimize loading speeds and the like. With all of this information you are now going to be equipped to figure out whether or not using Google Chrome is truly going to end up being worth it for you. Some people are going to suggest that this just isn’t a worthy use of their RAM, but others will acknowledge that Chrome might just manage to do a pretty good job at being a web browser precisely because of the fact that it uses up so much RAM.

Whereas, people may be shocked with the Chrome OS which has officially crossed the market share of macOS with a market share of 11 percent. Many people are interested in using Chrome OS and Chromebook because of its simplicity, security, and all the services which Google provides. Its working is quite similar to Windows and macOS but it provides some extra features like progressive web apps (PWA) which is basically progressive web app are super high functioning websites which you can save them in a shortcut, or for offline functionality like Google Docs when you do not have an internet connection. Google has also introduced Chromebook when is made for you if you mostly work online. They are designed to be a portal to the net for you to use online applications. It can do your work securely and efficiently.

Apple was the long-time competitor of Microsoft Windows but now its rival could be Chrome OS, because Google has recently in the past few years increased its production and marketing surrounding their operating system and related devices. One of the reasons that why Chrome OS has beaten Apple’s macOS market share is the price which many people cannot afford macOS and Chrome OS provides all the relevant features to complete your task. People are shifting to Chrome OS but still, it can be very difficult for Chrome OS to beat Microsoft Windows because according to an estimate by Statista, Microsoft Windows still has around 80 percent of the market share in the desktop operating systems.
